ELECTRONIC RADIO FENCE
- NEW SPECIAL PRICES!
The Radio (electronic) Fence is a versatile system designed to keep one or several pets contained in the smallest yard through to a 10 acre block. Veterinarians and professional dog trainers agree that the system is safe, effective and humane. Tying your dog up or locking it indoors leads to a bored, frustrated and possibly destructive animal. But now you can give your dog the freedom to be in the yard and get the exercise it needs. This system has been used for cats, horses, alpacas and even a pet pig! Local Councils are working to enforce regulations to ensure pets are restricted to their own property with heavy fines for wanderers.
The Radio Fence not only keeps your pet in, but also works as boundary to restrict your pet from areas you wish to protect, such as pools, gardens and entertaining areas. It has even been laid through canals to allow pets to swim in hot weather. By keeping a spare roll of wire you can easily have a portable system for holiday homes. It is ideal for use in rental properties as it can be relocated if you move.
The
system is easy to install and use. The wire
can be buried, laid above ground in dense
bush, or attached to an existing fence. With
a little training to acquaint your pet with
the boundary line, it will soon learn which
are the pet areas, and which are off-limits.
And best of all, the Radio Fence can’t be
chewed through, dug under or jumped over!
This system is recommended for dogs 6 months
and over, horses 12 months and over.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The
transmitter is plugged into a standard power
outlet (must be out of the weather). The boundary wire (copper insulated 1 mm) is run
from the transmitter in a loop to border
your ‘pet area’ and
back into the transmitter. A control knob
selects the desired Warning/Correction zone
width that your dog must not cross, up to 1
½ metres. The transmitter emits a radio
signal that travels along the wire. A
receiver on the pet’s collar picks this up
and alerts it with a warning tone, followed
by a correction if it does not retreat from
the correction zone.
HOW LONG DOES TRAINING TAKE?
The manufacturer suggests 10 minutes a day for 2 weeks will train your dog successfully, and that you should reinforce training on a regular basis. This system is not recommended for vicious or aggressive animals that may pose a threat to others. It is also recommended for healthy animals only, so please consult your vet if you have any concerns about your pet’s health (pregnancy, heart condition, medication etc).
IS IT EASY TO INSTALL?
Installation is quick and easy. If you are
laying the wire underground for an invisible
fence, use a spade or lawn edger to make a
trench to bury the wire 1-3 inches deep. An
average yard takes less than 4 hours. You
can attach the wire to existing structures
or do a combination of above and below
ground. Driveways may be crossed by cutting
a shallow groove across the surface, then
laying the wire in the groove and caulking
over it. Or, you can lay the wire in the
expansion joint and caulk over it.
The boundary line must then be marked with visible
flag markers every 3 metres to remind your
dog where the boundary is. Your kit comes with 25 flags (enough
for 100m). For large areas you can improvise
with fabric ties and also make use of
natural landmarks such as fallen trees,
bushes, garden edges, etc. Additional flags
(25 pack) are available for purchase.
By twisting the wire around itself you can
cancel the signal along that portion of
wire, enabling you to create ‘no-go’ areas
in the middle of a pet area such as a flower
or vegetable bed.
CAN I GET HELP AND ADVICE AFTER I PURCHASE, IF I NEED IT?
Yes,
we can provide after sales assistance from
our expert installer. Full written
instructions are included with the Radio
Fence.

SAMPLE LOOP
LAYOUTS
Just a
few ideas to get you started. Don’t forget
your transmitter must be situated indoors near
an electrical outlet. Install at least 1m
from large metal objects or appliances as
these may interfere with the consistency of
the signal (metal doors, water heaters,
washing machines.)
Twisting the wire around itself will cancel
the signal along that stretch of wire.
Corners should be always be rounded for a
consistent signal. When making a double loop
the wires must be separated by a minimum of
1 ½ m to avoid cancelling the signal.
Running the wire parallel to electrical
cables, wires, antennas and satellite dishes
will result in signal interference. If you
must cross, do so at a 90 degree angle.

BASIC BOUNDARY LOOP with PROTECTED AREA
The basic loop layout allows your dog and
cat access to your entire property. Small
areas such as gardens or swimming pools may
be protected by creating ‘interior loops’
with the boundary wire as shown. Braided
wire from house to boundary (or boundary to
boundary) cancels
signal. Boundary wire creates a loop
around the perimeter of the property.
Driveway is crossed by burying wire. This
can be achieved by cutting a narrow
groove with a masonry blade, burying the
wire and filling groove
with asphalt or concrete caulk. If
later removal might be required, the driveway section can also be
enclosed in garden hose before burying. Interior
loops can be created around specific areas
to be avoided.
FRONT BOUNDARY LOOP WITH EXISTING FENCE
This
layout supplements an existing fence to
protect the entire property. You may also
create boundaries when only your backyard
is to be fenced. Braided wire to boundary
loop. Boundary wire is installed in an ‘out
and back’ loop on one or more sides of the
property.
Loop is at least 2 m wide in all locations.
See wire chart below for estimations and
please call us if you have any questions.
ESTIMATING YOUR WIRE
How much wire do you require?
In
order to plan the area for your Radio Fence,
allow for the distance from where you will
locate the transmitter, to the boundary.
Multiply this by 2 and add the perimeter
distance. A standard block will measure
approximately ¼ acre which requires 200m of
wire.
The chart below gives the approximates the
perimeter distance based on the maximum
requirements.
